‘I’m not thinking right, right now’: Video shows Justin Bone days before murder – Edmonton

Video evidence presented at Justin Bone’s second-degree murder trial shows what he experienced shortly before his arrest in connection with the 2022 beating deaths of two men in Edmonton.

The video was recorded in May of that year, three days before the murders of Ban Phuc Hoang, 61, and Hung Trang, 64, in an RCMP car as officers drove Bone to Edmonton from a family friend’s home in Alberta Beach.

Bone, on bail for other charges, had been staying with a friend with court approval. The police were called there because of a domestic dispute and took Bone with them.

The 49-minute video, the time it took to drive to Edmonton, captures the conversation between Bone and the RCMP officer behind the wheel.

At one point, the officer said, “Just one day,” to which Bone replied, “There’s not a day when you’re on the street.” The officer then said, “the last thing I’m trying to do here is make you homeless.” Bone responded, “Well, you just did, you just did it by taking me from where I belonged.”

In the video, the RCMP officers appear unclear about where they are taking Bone. They both agreed with Edmonton despite the fact that, under the terms of his release, Bone was ordered to stay away from the city.

This issue is raised several times in the video. At one point, Bone pleaded with the officers, saying, “I wasn’t violated, I didn’t want to do anything wrong. I didn’t want to do this, you guys made me do this. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do the wrong thing. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do anything wrong. I don’t want to do this, you guys forced me to do this. I don’t want to do anything wrong. I don’t want to do this, you guys forced me to do this.” I don’t want to do anything wrong. I don’t want to do this, you guys forced me to do this.

The officer responded, “We’re trying to get you on the right path,” to which Bone angrily stated, “No! This is the wrong path!”

They eventually agreed to drop Bone off in Edmonton’s Jasper Place neighborhood, but not before Bone said, “I’m not thinking right now. I’ll figure it out, sir, trust me on that. You brought me here, you had to, you want to, I’ll find my way. If not, then I’ll probably come back with you guys.”

Hoang and Trang were murdered three days later. Bone’s trial is scheduled to continue on August 10.
