Investigators continue to investigate the cause of the shooting in Montreal on Monday, June 22.
A Lethbridge, Alta., neighbor of Seth Scott Hatfield, the man accused in the shooting, said he saw Hatfield briefly, but never knew him.
“He wasn’t very approachable. Really kept to himself,” said neighbor Anika Medema.
Medema, along with other residents, were shocked by the increased police presence at their townhouse complex on Tuesday, the day after the shooting.

Lethbridge police searched a unit at the complex on Lemoyne Crescent for hours.
Medema said his residence was usually quiet, but that changed on Tuesday, when the quiet complex turned into a high-risk search location.
Medema had left early in the morning before police arrived but returned to the scene.
“There were police everywhere,” Medema said.
The University of Lethbridge has confirmed that Hatfield was a student there.
They expressed condolences to everyone affected by the shooting and condemned the violence.
“You never know who you’re going to cross,” said Medema, who also attends the university.
Medema said the case is a reminder that you never know what’s going on behind closed doors.
“You don’t really know your neighbors, so anything can happen,” Medema said.
