It all started with a little girl, a camcorder and a dream. Now, several years later, Saskatchewan filmmaker Emma Zuck is being praised for her artistry.
After attending film school in Toronto, Zuck returned to Saskatoon, excited to share the short films he made with his community. He quickly realized that there was no real opportunity in the province to share Prairie-made short films. This inspired him to found the Homegrown Cinema Club.

Zuck’s initiative allows local filmmakers to share their art with the masses, while raising money for charity. Homegrown is still in its early stages, but so far, the turnout and support has been great.
“What really stuck with me was how many people I didn’t even expect were interested in seeing the short film… and the sheer joy and gratitude of seeing something that was local,” Zuck said.
