Saskatchewan officials urge caution as dry weather fuels wildfires – Regina

On Monday, May 11, a forest fire that Saskatchewan officials had previously managed to control in the Starblanket and Little Black Bear First Nations, about an hour and a half northeast of Regina, flared again.

Before the fire broke out, no houses were lost, but several barns and family huts that once stood tall now lay in piles of ash.

As the winds picked up again, the flames also increased, and first responders continued to evacuate those as needed.

Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency said that most of the southern and central areas of the province are suitable for extreme fire behavior.

Officials are urging the public to be especially careful in the coming days as the weather is forecast to be dry and hot.
