Forming Saskatchewan: Vince Bruni-Bossio – Saskatoon


Building community is the intention of the University of Saskatchewan’s 12th chancellor.

Vince Bruni-Bossio was appointed to a new five-year term last summer and took office on January 1. He was born in Jasper, Alta., to newcomers who immigrated from Italy.

Serving in many key roles in the USask department, Bruni-Bossio has been at the university for the past 18 years. He is also an alumnus of the Edwards School of Business and received his PhD from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy.

His vision is to lead with a strong sense of community.

“I think my leadership is focused on building a real line of let’s come together, make this a great place, make sure everyone feels like they can contribute, and let’s do great work,” he said.

He said finding out he was the next president was a powerful moment while he was on vacation with his family in Victoria, British Columbia, and walking through Butchart Gardens.


“People always ask me, ‘What do you do?’ Yeah, I was at the park, so I was walking around and thinking about my life and that’s when we walked around for a few hours and thought, ‘Wow this is going to be a really interesting change,’” Bruni-Bossio said.
